Top Tips for Successful Blog Writing

Tom garrigan - founder tpg

Successful blog writing can be tricky. If you can’t settle on a topic the best place to start is to think about what does your audience need to know?

[blockquote]How will your blog answer your readers’ challenges?[/blockquote]

Write your blog to educate and inform your readers on a topic and answer their questions.  For example – a company is looking for a software package to manage their HR systems.  If a software company writes about how automating HR systems saves time and can help with spotting gaps in training, this is much more educational than just a sales blog on how great their product it.

Successful Blog Writing and Keyword Placement

Having thought about challenges, before you start writing – STOP and think about your keyword first!  It’s easy to dive in and start writing , but if you decide on the best keyword first, you can work it into your blog more naturally.

Does your Keyword appear:

… in your post URL?

… in your blog title?

…. in your first paragraph?

…. in a sub heading?

… in your image descriptions/tags?

It holds true that your blog must make sense, stuffing it full of keywords will only serve to put your readers off.

If you’re struggling to find a blog title, try one of these title generators – they can be a little predictable, but are useful to get you thinking about catchy titles:

Using An Editorial Calendar

Don’t forget that using an Editorial Calendar will help you plan your blog topics by providing a framework and structure over the coming weeks/months.  When you hit on a topic that answers your readers’ challenges write more than one blog on it; think about writing it from different angles, or using different testimonials or case studies. Using the blog topic more than once, but with the same keyword will help with your organic search results.

And Finally

Having researched your customers’ challenges, planned your keyword and written a great blog, make sure you post links to it on groups, circles or forums your belong to.  Using some interesting “teaser text” that encourages readers to click on the link and read your blog is a great way to generate more traffic and start the basics of inbound marketing for your website.
